Hang about, what's happened here then? Sure it was only 3 days ago I was up at Coronet and the neige was still lovely (and plenty of it). 3 days of warm weather and very strong winds have really taken their toll on the mountain. Was 20 degrees in Queenstown today apparently. Yeh, so it really has been melting away up there. Still windy though so not t-shirt weather yet.
There's supposed to be at least 5 weeks of the season left, but if it keeps melting at this rate I'd be surprised if it lasts a week! Almost brought a tear to my eye riding up Greengates lift..until of course I saw the water splashes to ride...bring that on like donkey kong

.
Funny though, the conditions being like this seemed to spur me on to just go for more stuff than I have been all season, so taking in every single hit, drop, gully I could find. Jump the slush patches and rocks, it's all there. All in a great afternoon's riding. Was sposed to be up there for night riding and had brought SJ's stuff but sure enough those strong winds came back in just before 4pm so it was called off. Bit gutted cos there's probably not many night riding nights left - wish I'd got a few more in earlier in the season.
Big question now is am I gonna still get my 50 days riding in? Might be hard pushed if it stays like this, but the word is Monsieur Dumpy is rolling back in this weekend (there's a massive low just south of NZ the size of a cow's head, just needs to nudge up this way a bit more). Whatever way things go over the next few weeks, I can safely say I've loved this season - best thing few months ever. Sweet as.
